Personal background |
I'm just a simple 17 year old high school student from the northeast, doing my part to aid the search. Running SAH on an Apple iBook in OSX during the night and speeding through work units every two days or so. I'm an active member of the local FIRST Robotics team (www.usfirst.org), am currently halfway through working on restoring my project car, a Volvo P1800 my father gave me, and doing my best to perform in school. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Judging on pure math, probabilitywise, we shouldnt be the only life in the universe. Will we discover it? Most likely not in my lifetime. Benefits... only time will tell. Dangers... the same ones as we have here on earth. If we were to send a beacon, a galactic location might be nice, I dont think anyone would care who our political leader is, most of us who should dont care anyways.
Why do I run SAH? I feel that sometime the work of this project will be recognized by someone important, and the allure that we might find a transmitted signal from a distant planetary system is what keeps me in it. Not so much the actual contact, but just knowing we're not alone. We really cant be, but knowing where the other life is, be it hostile, friendly, xenophobic, or just downright unintelligent. If they're out there, I'd like to find them. |
