Personal background
I'm from Norway, 20 years old and a full time bum. No real school, no full time job, just a lot of sparetime atm. :)
Starting school this fall and I'm really looking forward to it. Gonna study something along the lines of Compute Science. It'll be kinda though, but I'm hoping that it'll be fun to.
I tend to watch soccer from time to time. Especially Champions League and Premier League, and ofcourse, Manchester United is the team :) I've been a fan since early 90's or something.
I'm also interrested in music, movies, hifi, and to a degree politics as well. And I'm always searching for a way to buy DVD's and improve/finish building my home cinema, but since it's kinda expensive it's gotten to a hold after I cut down on working. Right now I'm getting closer and closer to 100 DVD's since I started buying last fall.
Since I'm gonna study CS I kinda like spending time at the computer as well. I haven't learned any programing languages yet, but since I'm gonna have Java and C at school I guess I'll start taking a look at them before I start studying. I know my way around php/mysql after a while with db programing though, so I'm not a total newb.
Feel free to contact me on MSN mariox@start.no or on mail at the same adress.
(Yeah, I'm kinda drunk on the photo, but it was the only picture I had available right now. :P)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do aliens exist ? I don't know. The universe is kinda big. My guess is that life do exist, but if they're living at the exactly same time we are is kinda hard to know. The lifespan of humans is kinda short when comparing to the entire universe. And if someone exist, do they know about other planets than theire own ? For all we know they could be living on a planet entirly covered in water and they all have gills and living under water and have no ambitions what so ever on getting out into space.
You also have the possibility that they already have been here and see no reason to contact us. If I where a super smart beeing that know everything we know and another 3000 years or something of technology, why would they wanna know us ? As soon as they make contact we would want to know EVERYTHING they know, if not we would probably declare war or something on them.
Transmitting a beacon? Ss long as we have all the things we have, transmitting stuff all over the globe there's no reason to transmit another one. I don't think there's any information we could say on it that would be of any interest. And radio waves don't exactly travel fast so it'll take ages before someone would be able to respond.
I'm running SETI@home just for the fun of it. Finding an alien would be kinda cool, and I've got a couple of computers just laying around that'll crunch a unit now and then :)
