Profile: Ed Shearin

Personal background
I've been interested in space things and astronomy since I was a teenager (which was light years ago). I grew up under very dark stars, but like most, don't exactly have that for my nightly environment now. I am a long-time mountaineer and backpacker, and part of the delight of those unfortunately infrequent pursuits is that the locations I frequent have very dark skies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've always wondered what was out there--SETI is a way of actively trying to answer that question. I agree with the view that passive listening is probably the wiser route to take, and the slowly growing ways that SETI is finding to do that seems like the best bet in town for finding something. It just feels intuitively right to see who else is made of star dust.
