Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do believe that extraterrestrial life exists. I think it would extremely vain and ignorant of us to believe that we live on the only planet out of millions and millions on which intelligent life evolved. I would love it if we encountered other intelligence in the universe in my lifetime, but I have no inkling as to when this will occur.

Who knows what the benefits and dangers could be? Either could be overwhelming. Contact with extraterrestrial intelligence will most certainly change our world in ways that cannot be imagined, even remote, non-physical contact. At our current level of technology, it is impossible for us to travel to the stars to seek out new life. Hopefully, an advanced race, benevolent one would hope, will seek us out. I have been a devotee of science and speculative fiction all of my life, so the various scenarios of contact with other life are endless. I would not even hazard a guess.

I am running SETI@home because I find it interesting to be a part of the search. My computer at home is on pretty much 24 hours a day, so it might as well be doing something useful when I am not using it. I am running SETI@home on a 1.8 GHz Pentium IV with 512 meg of memory.
