Personal background
I'm running SETI@home from beautiful Vancouver, BC. I love Star Wars, but only the original three. I am also a huge fan of Monty Python series and movies, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and The Simpsons just to name a few.

Besides working and studying, I am a member of a local fencing club and fence on a weekly basis. Otherwise, I can be found swimming laps at the local pools or pounding pavement around the neighbourhood.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I believe in their objectives and
would like to contribute to their cause.

I sincerely hope that intelligent life exists beyond our planet and galaxy. I don't think anyone can predict when we will discover other intelligent life but it would be a treat if it happens within my lifetime.

I believe, as Arthur C. Clarke does, that the extraterrestrial life that we may come into contact with will probably be of a higher order than humans. In this case, they will be probably not be interested in causing us any harm but may in fact have some valuable lessons to share with us. Maybe I'm watching 2001: A Space Odyssey too much ;)

My major concern is that a majority of the human population may not be able to accept extraterrestial life as a reality should that day come. Worse yet, I fear that it will be the humans who may try to inflict harm in the form of warfare because they fear what they do not know as opposed to trying to understand and learn from others.
