Personal background
I am a 22 year old computet science student, studying at the University of Wales, Bangor, United Kingdom.

I am an avid down hill mountain biker, and enjoy nothing more than hurtling down the side of a mountain at break neck speeds.

I am currently working as a cycle mechanic at my local halfords. This job provides me with the opertunities to met new people who are also into biking.

I have lived in north wales all my life, although I do wish to see more of the world. My ambition is to become a game programmer, working out of southern california. However it may take me a few more years yet.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I belive that in the vast universe there must be another intelligent race of beings. In fact even if we look at our own galaxy it is possible to surmise that there will be another intelligent life form somewhere out there.

I think it may be a long time before humans discover another inteligent life form. This is due to the vast number of planets in the universe, and the distances between them. When we do discover other inteligent life I belive that it will be through radio transmissions, or direct contact.

When we do make contact it may come as a shock to the human race. It will make use reolise just how primative we are. On the other hand nobody has ever said that other intelligent life must be more advanced than us. I belive that such a discovery would change the human race, we would have new goals as a race. Capitalism would give way to the search for knowledge, the search for other intelligent life forms.

I think that we should send out a beacon to other worlds. It is a good idea because up until now only weak radio and telivision transmissions have been transmited, accidentaly, from our planet. These signals will be so degraded by the time they reach even the nearest stars, that other races would not realise that they came from another intelligent people.

If we were to send out a message to the stars. I think it should contain information about our cultures and sciences. We should let other intelligent beings know that we are out there and that we a ready to make contact.

I run SETI@home because I wish to do my part in what could be the most important scientific discovery in the whole of humanities breif existance.
