Personal background
I'm a 32 year old workaholic, computer nerd, electronics/robotics hobbyist, PC gamer, and I LOVE music.....almost all kinds. I played the guitar for over 15 years. I guess I am a jack-of-all-trades; definitely a master of none. I am good at math, mechanically inclined, and like to work with my hands. I'm not much of a people person, although I do have friends and "hang out" from time to time. I have a very sarcastic and silly sense of humor. I love to laugh!!

I like to acquire knowledge, but have always hated school. I feel I have learned more from experience than from homework. I also think I have some form of attention deficit syndrome because I could never really focus enough to "study" well. Also, my interests constantly change or expand. This week, it's SETI, last week was noodling around with Redhat Linux, next week, probably something else. The cool thing about SETI@home is that even if I get bored with it, I can still keep it going and it won't interfere with my use of the computer. By the time I'm interested in it again, I'll have processed loads of work units(hopefully).

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think SETI@home is an awesome idea!! I've always wanted to participate in some way with SETI, but I'm not as smart as the SETI scientists.

I'm not sure if I believe there is intelligent life out there. Even if there isn't, I think the search for extraterrestrial intelligence is a noble cause and, at the very least, will lead to new astronomical discoveries and new technologies.

Who knows whether ET will be friendly, hostile, or indifferent? And what form will ET take -- a gooey blob, a microscopic creature, or maybe some ethereal form we can't even comprehend? Speculating is almost as fascinating as actually meeting ET, I think. Maybe even more so.

I think that the search itself is just as important as if/when we actually prove or disprove the existence of ET. Look how much we've learned about our universe; and our world; and ourselves. But there's so much more to learn, and to discover........
