Personal background
Hi! I'm Matt Gentile. I am a 41-year old Sicilian-American living in San Diego, California. I work at a local high school as an administrative assistant. I have a partner and we bought our first home about three years ago. We are both into Science Fiction, Star Trek (of course!), and this is one of the most worthwhile projects man has ever undertaken, in our opinions. Not only does it try to cement our fractious humantiy together in a joint project, but it tried to answer the ultimate question of who else is out here with us! Thank you for allowing us to participate!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course, there is other life. How simpleminded and egomaniacal of a species to think that they are the masters of all they perceive. I believe that, in time, when we are ready, we will have our first contact. Through this search, perhaps we will discover other species that also do not have the capabilities to travel beyond their own system. Those species that do however, we believe, will be the ones initiating contact. The benefits are incalculable. I also believe we will not find these other beings to be aggressive "space invaders." I believe that as a species matures, its spirituality progresses as does its technology. To travel the stars should indicate that a species has advanced beyond aggressiveness. Perhaps something holding us back?

We should send out beacons, physical and by other transmission. The effort of Voyager should be expanded and continued with a smiliar message of greeting.

As I said before, SETI may be the single most important effort undertaken by mankind. The linking of personal computers to to do the task that every government on Earth should be doing is fantastic. This effort need more publicity, on a global level. Magazines, news programs, etc. should highlight this and then the effort will grow to even more heights and power.
