Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Although it may seem like an act of faith to believe in extra-terrestrial life, I find it difficult to believe that life was favoured only once in a (much more than) billion to one shot leaving us alone in the universe. Indeed, I believe we will ultimately find that life is more the norm, and that intelligent life is the logical outgrowth of that... The sad thing is that whatever we discover in deep space is so far away in time and space that we will have no means to converse with it. My fear is that we will run into an intelligence even more commercially oriented than ourselves, and that any meaningful information will be offered on a pay per view basis ;-)
