Personal background
I'm a 37 year old computer animator/illustrator currently living in...

Connecticut
USA
Earth
Sol System
Milky Way Galaxy

I've been into anything to do with Space ever since someone first explained to me that we're all cruising through an infinite partial vacuum on a tiny delicate spaceship named rather unattractively... Earth.

Hobbies

In addition to a bunch of stuff I'm into, perhaps the most relevent would be my telescope. I own a 4.5" reflector telescope that I really enjoy using. Seeing the moons around Saturn for the first time really blew me away. I'd seen our solar system on TV & in books a million times but actually viewing the planets live (well minus the light travel time that is) really touched me in a way I can't put into words.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET life exists? I think its incredibly arrogant & narrow minded to think it doesn't.

What SETI is doing is wonderful & I fully support its approach however whether we can detect ET life is another matter...

There is still so very much we don't understand or perhaps can't understand about the true nature of the universe & those that occupy it. Our limited five sensed perception of the universe, even augmented with the extra sensory inputs of our machines, is probably only reveling a minuet 'layer' of what reality is truly like. We're like a blind ameba attempting to comprehend the size, location & nature of the ocean its floating in. It may sense its immediate surroundings & even be aware of objects some distance away but is it capable of detecting the progress or even comprehending the workings of say a chess game being played on the other side of the globe?.. I don't think so.

Accepting that we are probably not capable of understanding the true nature of the universe is a necessary first step towards understanding it.
