Personal background
Tech058 - I acquired that stupid handle from a job awhile back, and it stuck. I need a new one, any suggestions?

I'm a software engineer. 24 years old as of 2003.

I generally end up doing a lot of Perl - CGI/DBI work, but my real passion is Linux based open source development! But when someone hands you a paycheck, its hard to turn it away, yes im a code-whore... Gosh, I sure miss the dotcoms! You know, the closets full of rice crispy treats, freezers full of frozen bean burritos and all the table-tennis you can eat! Though I can't complain, I have a job which is more than most my SWE brethren can say.

Im really into photography, digital electronics, and spirituality.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Seti is awesome, wanna give me a job?

Do ET's exist?

Here's a better question..

Is it worth millions of distributed CPU hours to find out? Absofreakinlutely!
Or I suppose we could just wait another 60 years until the Vulcans find us right?
You know that Gene Roddenberry is really from the future! ;)

Really, the chances of humans being the only living intelligent beings in the universe are very unlikely, I just hope they're less than 10 lightyears away.

Should humans transmit a beacon? We already have.. Voyager 1 or how about all the random radio transmissions we dump out into empty space every day. Heh, maybe we dump so much, someone looking might think we were such a random "natural" occurance we might just be worth investigating!

I run seti cuz it makes me feel cool.. You know what I'm talking about.. Chicks dig complete seti units.

Views? The style of distributed processing seti uses is a fantastic idea and should be implemented more widely.
Maybe to contemplate the question to which the answer is... 42!
You dont know what im talking about? Read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams..
