Personal background
I was born in the 50's, raised in the 60's. I'm a 52 y.o. biker from South Philly with 18 grand and 8 great-grands. I remember, as a kid, hanging out the second floor window with a small transistor radio trying to pick-up Sputnik's signals as it passed overhead. WOW! THIS is even cooler!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
YES! There is no doubt in my mind that we are not alone....barring the mathematically freakish possibility that we are the first.....or the last (gasp!....lol)

And yes, I think extraterrestial life will be detected ( probably when techniques and equiptment have been refined to the point where we can detect the spurious radio transmissions of planets circling other stars)
the benefits limited... communication impossible without some unforseen advance in space/time/gravity .

and the only danger coming from organized religious zelouts.

BEACON? Hmmmm..... that one makes me pause (planetary paranoia?...too many alien movies?) I would wait until other beacons are detected.

SETI.... could work. It's a start, anyway.
