I'm a 17 yr old guy from Poland (Gdynia), currently living in Sweden.
My interests varies from Mathematics, Physics, Cosmonology, Genetics, Chemistry, Psychology, and Biology -- to computers, cykling, walking around in the woods at night (those who know me know what I mean ;), worshipping my bird Kiwi, The Allmighty!, thinking about who/what I am, thinking about that I think about who/what I am, thinking about what makes me think about what I'm thinking about (serriously!), learning Pi (currently up to 82 decimals), will this ever end?, practicing my own meditation - which makes me like stuff I hate (this one really helps at school) etc etc.. pretty much the same as everyone else! or maybe not! =) |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

I don't know if intelligent life exsists out there. But the question is: Does it really matter what I or anyone else think?
The search for other intelligent life should be performed by any civilization capable of doing so. It should be supported by the leaders of the civilization, not just a tiny group of enthusiasts like this.
I'm not saying SETI@home is bad in any way, I'm saying it's bad that it could be better.
The universe is not only a big space, it is also a very long time. If there aren't any extraterrestrial beings in it right now, there could be in the future - or there could aswell have been in the past.
The search for an answer must therefore not only be pretty intensive, but also last for the longest time possible. We might catch a signal that originates from a civilization that died out a long time ago! - but we could aswell have missed it by a million years.
Ofcourse, if everybody searches, no one is going to find anything.. Someone has to provide something to search for. What we should send? I'm not the one to ask, as I have no experience in this direction.
Putting this to an end, I'm contributing with what I can, and only hope it isn't for nothing. |
