Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
They might exist right now on the other side of the galaxy but it will take a while before we will hear anything from them...
Still I think it is just as inportant as finding Dinosaur bones in the ground. We all like to know what happened to other species on other planets even though they're not psychically there anymore...
