Personal background
Well, I've lived in the green and brown state of Oregon for my entire life... I've traveled a bit, not too much however. I'm currently studying post-high school for a better career and I work for UPS. I'm 20 years old and aging. ;) I enjoy reading science fiction, non-fiction, playing any kind of game, sports and generally enjoy experiencing life... I love to take in all of the smells of my sorroundings. Mmmm, nothing like the smell of a fresh rain in a wooded area or a wind coming from a field of drying grass in the summer.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I don't know if ET's exist, although I would be greatly fulfilled if they were found to exist. I'm not sure if the current level of searching will locate any ET's, unless they are nearby and similar to our own technological level. The benefits of such a discovery, for me would be an eventual death that would be incredibly satisfied. I'm not sure if it would solve all of Earth's problems, I believe there would still be those prone to violence, to the hating of others (perhaps they would turn their hatred towards the ET's), and other commonly held beliefs as to humanities nature.

We are already transmitting quite a lot of information out into the stars. Besides, if a civilization was so further advanced then ours and if they had the desire to destroy others that may oppose them, then they would also most likely do so by the time we had the capability to travel interstellary. So, if we had the chance of becoming exterminated via interstellar travel, transmitting a beacon shouldn't be too much of a risk. For me the benefits would outweigh the risk, even if the ET's were hostile.

I run SETI@home because I WANT to help this program continue to live and defy our government who thoughtlessly cut it from it's budget in the early 1990's, like they have done for many other potentially awesome programs.

A suggestion, continue expanding the wealth of data for users to analyze. Basicly, just keep up the good work. And to you all, good luck.
