Personal background
Waterski and windsurfing is what I do when I am not behind my PC. I work as a senior software engineer for Ordina (http://www.ordina.nl). Also check out my waterski website http://www.waterski.nl
Hope to go waterskiing with ET soon.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Statistically ET must exist. Most probably communication will not be possible because of the time it takes for the signal to travel.

When we discover ET it tells us much about what we are. It will change the world in a positive way. We will probably not meet or communicate in the near future, so no dangers there.

Since the invention of radio communication we are already transmitting a beacon. There is no reason why we should try to hide. If ET is able to reach is, it will probably also be able to detect us without a beacon.

SETI is a good opertunity to detect intelligent life outside. I install the client on any PC that I come across. This way we have the best change in finding this great signal.
