Profile: StarPerson

Personal background
I am a Canadian, living in northern Manitoba. I have been interested in the stars for all my life and love being able to take an active part in attempting to see if there is life out there that we can detect. I am 49 years old, I love the bush and anything to do with wilderness. I am also somewhat attached to my computer which presently is a pentium 4 running at 1.5 gig and 248 meg ram. I am also an avid bike rider (motorcyle) and snowmobiler. I love boating and canoeing.I am an underground miner by trade but have also been a truck driver, carpenter and other assorted attempts at things through my life. Happily married for 25 years with 4 children (grown) and 7 grandchildren. It would be interesting if something was discovered in my lifetime because I have seen the advent of television and computers, my grandfather saw the advent of the airplane and car in his area. Imagine the advance mankind has made in 100 years in technological capabilities. Now, if we could only learn to get along on a global basis....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think there is life out there, I really doubt that we will discover it through this means but, anything can happen. the odds that E.T. life would be on the same wavelength radiowise as we are and then finding it is at incomprehendable odds. However, if we do discover a viable signal, even if we cannot communicate with them( given signal transmission times) it would prove to all mankind that we are not unique, therefore we would have good reason to learn to get along and maybe stop being so arrogant as a species. maybe we, as a race, would even learn to get along and stop killing ourselves.I see no dangers as any other life that has the technolegy to travel to us I beleive would have overcome the need to conquer others, does not seem feasable to me to travel that distance just to destroy anyway. I see no point in sending a beacon as we transmit all kinds of beacons round the clock on many frequecies in our everyday lives already, one more would seem pointless. I think the seti@home project is a brilliant way to utilize unused resources to tackle an astronomical task. keep up the good work. I would be interested in seeing a summary of my units completed. (graphs spikes etc)
