Personal background
Hi! I'm a 38-year-old married father of three young kids. I live in Eureka, Missouri, a rural suburb of St. Louis. My wife is a career shadow facilitator for the local school district.

I'm the editor of an art & framing magazine, and have been a writer all my life. I have a deep interest in science--especially astronomy. I actually started my career at the St. Louis Science Center, the local science musuem. I'm also interested in science fiction, though much of the time real science seems more interesting and awe-inspiring than any fiction.

I love music and reading and writing, since my interests tend to skew toward the creative. I have followed the space program since its inception, and continue to be fascinated by our strides into space, though they sometimes seem to be agonizingly slow.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm not looking for aliens to come down and "save" us or make us a better race or give us the answers to anything. I don't want or expect anything from them except a simple alone that let's us know that we're not alone as we spin through space on our little blue planet. That, I beleive, will be the most profound occurence that has ever transpired in human history--to know that their are others out there. Perhaps a message like that will spur the development of things that are considered sciience fiction now. That's something to look forward to.

I've run Seti for about two years now, and I still have that hope, however unrealistic, that the packet I download and process will be "it"--a signal from another intelligent race.

I run Seti for one simple reason...I beleive in the program and want to be part of it. If my two little computers chugging away can help, I'm in!

Should humans send a beacon into space to let others know we're out here? Yes! Why not? Are we afraid of plant people coming down to get us? If there are other intelligent races out there, let's hope that they answered this question "Yes!" What a shame it would be if there were thousands of other intelligent races out there, but none signalling out of fear.
