Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run seti in the profound hope that we will find proof that other life exists. Religion in all its vile forms has caused enough misery and repression. If ET does indeed exist that knowledge will shatter all of mans primitive superstitions. We can get on with better things then.

I see no need to send a beacon. The galaxy is a huge place and there is little hope of such a beacon being discovered by other life. Even if it was discovered it may be in 100,000 years. I would hope that if man still exists by then we will be out among the stars.
