Personal background
Watching the sky on a clear, cold, dark Alaskan night can be exhilirating. When fortune smiles on us with clear skies during autumn and winter, the sights can be amazing. Satellites cruise overhead and falling stars zip through the sky regularly; and when the temperature is subzero, the stars 'sparkle' with great intensity. Adding to this treat are the Northern Lights. To sky gaze with the Aurora dancing and shimmering all over the sky is simply, pure eye candy. Currently I am working a Masters degree in archaeology and I'm an active participant with the Sicilian Achaeological Field School. An international research project studying the archaeology of central-western Sicily.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The term 'ET life' is rather broad covering life forms that range from simple to complex; yes, I think ET life exists in some form. Exactly what type of life remains to be discovered; which means there is an infinite amount of scenarios available.

For instance, if we discover a life form that is malicious in nature, then many of the scenarios could be rather horrifying. However, if a life form is friendly, then the scenarios could ones filled with great success for the earth and all of its species. As well, anything in between is possible with an unknown.

I run SETI@home because of the infinite possibilities.
The answer to ET life is still out there for us to find. Unless we make attempts at discovery with available technology and money, it implies that humans are complacent to remain ignorant of any alternate life form that may exist in our universe.
