Personal background
I go to school at WPI in Worcester, MA, I am an amature astronomer and avid computer user. I've been a member of Seti@home since the very beginning (I signed up on May 28th, 1999, but I lost that email address and had to start a new account).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm not sure that a program such as Seti@Home can ever be successful. Any alien race would probably have the same problems that we do, and probably aren't sending signals that could be detected by us this far away. Earth currently has no "seti outreach" program to contact the stars, and there is no reason to think that an alien race would either. However, running seti@home doesn't cost me anything, and if there is a slight chance that I could help to discover ETI, then I might as well help out.
