Personal background
Hello. My name is Jana and I am 26 years old and currently living with my soon to be husband, David, in Fort Knox, Kentucky. David is a medic in the U.S. Army and got home from Iraq about 8 months ago. We plan on being married within the next three months.

I have been an epileptic since I was 18 years old, and, even though it has been hard for me, it has strengthened me in more ways than I can count or describe. In fact, just my speaking to other people about my epilepsy changes their own opinions, which are most times stereotypical. If I can have that much of an impact by sharing my experiences of living with epilepsy, then I can always hope that one day there will be a cure and keep fighting tooth and nail day by day.

I have a BSE in Social Science Education, but because of my epilepsy I am unable to use my degree. I cannot drive and I do not know when my seizures will occur. That makes me unsafe to teach. But, I am happy with the man I love and I hope that eventually I will be able to at least be a substitute teacher.

I enjoy reading (mostly history, science fiction, and fantasy), star-gazing, playing with my cats Spot and Disco, acting crazy with my younger sisters and friends, listening to music (foreign music mostly, especially from Japan and China), watching Japanimation, and writing my own fanfiction.

But most importantly, I love being with David...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do believe that it is possible for there to be beings on other planets. I do not think that God would make this incredibly vast universe only for humans; that is a little egocentric of people to think in my opinion.
I think the discovery of extraterrestrial life will happen when no one is expecting it. I do know that SETI is trying to find other beings, but I have a feeling that they will stumble across proof of extraterrestrial beings when they are least expecting it and that it will have been under their nose the entire time!
The obvious dangers will be from heretics on earth; not all religions will be happy about it either, but some will understand. I think that we will all benefit from the discovery and that in the end we will have a better understanding of ourselves and our reasons for being here on Earth.

Yes, I do think a beacon should be sent out. I think it should include information from all corners of the earth, all cultures, and that no one country should dictate what should and should not go into it.

I run SETI@home because I feel that it is important for us to find others in the universe. I think that life is rare and special, and finding others will make everyone even more aware of how special and unique they are, regardless of their religion, culture, or race.
I think the project is in itself special because apparently no one else but the people involved with SETI think that way about it.
The only suggestion I have is that SETI should work on making more and more people aware of the behind-the-scenes of SETI itself so that the public will become more interested in the project.
