Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?
I run it because it I'm interested in astrophysical information, computer usage, and it does not affect any other work on my computers. It's worthwhile because I'd like to know about the possibility of other civilizations.

Thoughts about ETI
Given the vastness of the universe, I do believe many forms of ETs must exist, but it is not likely we will discover any evidence in the near future. The benefits of discovering hard evidence of ETs is that it would fire up our imagination and enthusiasm for space exploration.

If FTL communication or travel is possible, we may not know to recognize it when it is used, so the SETI project may not be looking for the right stuff, but it is the best we can do for now.

I don't believe we should tansmit our own signal; that's worse than trying fo find a needle in all the haystacks there ever were. Only useful if it were nearly instantaeous.
