Profile: Isaac Bonewits

Personal background
I'm an author of several books (Real Magic, Authentic Thaumaturgy, The Pagan Man, Bonewits’s Essential Guide to Witchcraft and Wicca, and Bonewits’s Essential Guide to Druidism) a speaker about and teacher of Druidism, Witchcraft, Magic, and general occult studies; and holder of the only accredited Bachelor's degree ever given for studies in the field of Magic and Thaumaturgy (UC-Berkeley, 1970).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
A life-long science fiction fan and supporter of all space exploration programs, I firmly believe that "we are not alone" (to coin a phrase) in the physical universe, and strongly suspect that much of what has been interpreted as occult phenomena or "visitors" has in fact originated with space faring species. While I take every report with a small Siberian salt mine, I think that efforts such as the SETI program deserve the support of every intelligent citizen of planet Earth.

I think we should broadcast our existence and location, including basic mathematical and cultural information. I think Logban (aka "Loglan") should be one of the languages we broadcast in, as it's deeply logical structure will be the least culture-bound of those available (although still species-bound).

I run the SETI@home screensaver because it is one small way in which I can contribute to the search despite my "unscientific" (non-Scientistic) attitudes and beliefs.

My only suggestion would be to have more explanatory material built into the program, so that when it says, "Running such-and-such analysis" it had a following sentence saying, "This measures this-and-that." A popup note saying "That's really unusual" would be nice whenever the chart shows something special.

This explanatory material may be all on the main SETI@home website, but it's hard for us non-statisticians to remember when to get enthusiastic about what's on our screens. :)
