Personal background
I'm a seventeen year old computer addict, yes, I admit it, I love the internet! If there was such a thing as Computer Abusers Anonymous, I would be there, telling my story of strained eyesight and caffeine jitters from sitting at my computer for as long as possible, crying over the lost time that sleeping eating and doing bodily functions takes and sharing the joys of the latest gadgets and gizmos. However, I do also have a life, but then that's exactly what a computer junkie would say.

I took a year out of school to begin writing my first book, finding A-levels confining and monotonous and infinitely boring. The book was half written, fretted over, and finally discarded. I decided to change the course of my life drastically by taking my A-levels at home instead of returning to school, allowing myself to be free to learn at my own rate and in a way I wanted (much to the disgust of my sixth form college who promptly turned their back and erased all memory of me). I have found since then that my life has been peaceful, happy, and much more interesting.

At present I am learning to drive, and I simply can't wait for the day when I pull out of our driveway in my family car, a silver Saab 93 convertible, to the horror of my mother. I take aqua aerobics every week, feeling ridiculous, yet elated, while I do so. I've been told I'm a real 'water-baby' because of my love for swimming and I plan to start a course in kayaking in a couple of weeks, hopefully I might pass my 3 stars (British Canoeing Association Certifcates) so that I can sign on as a kayaking instructor on an adventure camp next summer.

I have two guinea pigs, a long hair and a short hair, both female, both 5 and a half months old. The long hair is black with ginger patches and is called Chili, the short hair is white with a cream face and is called Coconut. Unsurprisingly I was eating a Korma when I named my pets.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
If extraterrestrial life existed and it was more intelligent than us, then I'm sure we would have heard from it by now. This leads me to believe one of two things, either; a) the government are aware of the life from other planets, and just aren't telling, or b) the aliens realise we'd get a bit of a shock if they just landed, so they're slowly letting us get used to the idea of aliens before they make themselves known. Hence all the alien-related films, documentaries and sightings.

If however, their life is similar or below our own civilisation, I think they may be searching, just as we are. Radio waves take a long time to reach far galaxies, it could be that for the moment, either our signal hasn't reached them, or their reply hasn't reached us. Either way, the more advanced we become, the more likely it seems that we may discover other life-forms than our own in this universe.

Out there, somewhere, is a planet of people waiting to be heard, I don't think it matters what form of communication we send, if they are intelligent, they will figure it out and I believe that if they are intelligent, they will be civilised. Civilised people don't try to make war with, or destroy, a possible ally, at least not until they have assessed if we ourselves are a potential threat to them. That is why I'm not convinced that if aliens do contact us, they will be violent 'Indenpendent Day' style. But instead enquiring and as interested as we are.

I downloaded this program because I think that finding conclusive proof that aliens exist is the next step we need to take and if I can be any part of that or help, then I want to. The discovery of an alien race will most probably not occur in my life time, but I'm happy to say that I have been a part of something like this so that I can at least be helpful in my own little way.
