Personal background |
I am an eleven year old homeschool student from North Carolina. I love to study other cultures and languages (I'm currently learning Japanese, Latin, and Spanish), I practice several forms of martial arts including kendo, and I'm an otaku. I'm really interested in outer space, and am glad that I can help in the SETI project. I live near what used to be the Rosman NSA center, so I like satellite technology, too, and I've been researching the Brown Mountain Lights since I was nine. I hope to one day be able to travel in space myself, and it would be nice to know who and what I might run into. When I grow up I want to be a parapsychologist and work for the L.E.M.U.R. group in Asheville, North Carolina. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I do think extraterrestrial life exists, simply because logic says so. There are so many planets and so many star systems that it doesn't make sense to me that we are the only intelligent life. I have no idea when we will discover extraterrestrial life. If I were an alien, I probably wouldn't want to be discovered, so it may be difficult. The benefits to finding extraterrestrial life, to me, are simple. Think of all of the knowledge! I love learning about different people, places, and things. Don't you? Of course, like I said, extraterrestrial life may not want to be found, and might not be friendly if we did find it. I think it's worth the risk, though.
I definitely think we should transmit beacons, especially to let anyone listening know that we are curious and friendly. It's always best to be friendly.
I run SETI at home because 1) It's just cool, and 2) I want to help. I think the project is great. The only suggestion I can think of is to let more people know about it. |
