Personal background
Well.... Let's start at the beginning! I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1962. For the slow thinkers reading this, I'll help :-). I'm 40 years old!!! Since that year, I have pretty much lived all over these United States of ours, and have somehow found myself and my family (Wife: Caroline, Daughter: Amber, and Son: Daric), planted here in Amarillo, Texas. Some of you may be asking ?? Amarillo, Texas ?? how did you end up there? Well, there's not enough time or space so suffice it to say, "It's home". I'm a Letter Carrier, and have been one for the US Postal Service for 5 years, and it's one very interesting job I can assure you!
I love to play frisbee golf "DiscGolf", Bowl, Putt-putt (since my full golf game leaves a lot to be desired, that's why I frisbee golf as well!), Billiards/Pool, Computers/Internet/E-bay, and anything else that might strike my fancy. I have been in both the Army/Military Policeman (1981-1984) and the Navy/Sonar Technician Submarines (1986-1993). I love to collect things, but do have some favorites.... First and foremost- Spiderman!!! I can't wait til the movie arrives!!! M&M collectibles, Sports memorabilia (tons of cards) and mostly Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, and Pittsburgh Steelers items, anything old (with a history), and Beanie bears/buddies, but only the red, white, and blue or stars and stripes ones so I have 12 beanies, and 4 buddies... Hmmmm...... anything else you want to know, just e-mail me and ask.. I think I've sufficiently covered the me portion of this profile for now!! Thanks for reading it!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Let me answer this the systematic way....
1. Yes, We'll discover it completely out of thin air(by accident)so it can happen almost anytime. Providing it hasn't already sometime in the past!!, Benefits- possible health remedies, solutions to our ecological dilemmas, and scientifical/mechanical/electrical solutions that will aid in every day living. Dangers- ID4 type scenario (who knows??), or the reverse of the above benefits ie: new diseases brought to us that are lethal and are not accompanied by a cure, etc..
2. If the beacon can be transmitted at an economically viable cost, then in all honesty, what harm is there in it?????? and I think that answer is the most basic of basic reasons, and I feel we should send/transmit some type of message acknowledging our presence here on this planet, and reuesting communication with any life forms that are capable, and have it sent/transmitted in every known language, as well as all scientific languages used here on Earth.
3. Well, I stumbled across SETI@home, and am glad I did! I fully understand budget/funding restraints and problems, and I run it, so the SETI program can benefit by using my computer to analyze received data so they can save their precious funding by not having to purchase another computer to do what mine is doing. Well... beyond what I said about why I run SETI@home isn't enough views, here's a little more- I think the SETI!home project is GREAT, AWESOME, FANTASTIC...... and I am so glad I did stumble across it!! I have been and will continue to tell my friends about it with the hope that they too will download and run the SETI@home program!!, Hmmmmmmmmmm...... suggestions???? That's a tough one.... I'll have to put that on the back burner for now and give it some more thought. That's a question that merits serious consideration!!
