Personal background
I am a 41 year old computer/network technician working for the Greater St. Albert Catholic Regional School Division in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. For the most part, I am a very boring home body who enjoys HOCKEY, HOCKEY and MORE HOCKEY (ice hockey to those outside of Canada). I also enjoy participating in other sports when the right, non-competitve climate is available. I like to play hard for fun. If you don't play with all the gusto you have, why bother playing a game.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET life exists? The law of large numbers says it has to. Is that life intelligent? Your guess is as good as mine. And one also needs to consider what is defined as intelligent. To some other life form, we might be so far advanced that they cannot comprehend what we are doing. And to another entity we may seen at the same level that we see single cell organisms.
Why do I run SETI@home? Why not. It is the most useful thing I do with my computer at home. After looking at computers for 8 hours at work, I really don't relish the thought of more time in front of a monitor. Besides, I have to beat my pal Snuffy.
