Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes I think Exterrestial life exists. This universe is way too large to be the ONLY habitable planet. If we discover it, it will probably in response to a message we've sent out (ie "I Love Lucy") The benefit is the knowledge of knowing we aren't alone in the universe.

2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? We already did, it's called Voyager, and it left our solar system years ago. Not to mention the thousands/millions of radio/television broadcasts since the invention of the radio frequency.

3. I choose to run Seti@home because I like the idea of belonging to something important and hope to help out the scientific community in any small way I can. Especially since I almost never turn my computer off, so there's at least 8 1/2 hours a day that my computer is idle, not to mention when i'm sleeping.
