Profile: Welshmun

Personal background
An old timer from downunder, that's me. Nickname 'Welshmun' indicates my origins, but now settled in South East Queensland, Australia. But maybe not for long (Jan 2009).

My first job after college in 1966 was at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh,UK.
Yes, you can already see my interest in SETI.
After 2 years of that, I got into computing which I was with for the next 40 years. So, combining the two, it's a joy to be able to contribute to this marvellous project.

Greetings to all who participate.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I think ET is out there; probably in a form we can't even conceive at the moment.
My view on discovering ANY evidence of ET is that it will a profound effect on the way we think of ourselves as a civilisation and our consequent evolution; hopefully it will help to make us less Earth centric and realise our place in the Universe.
And get along better with each other too.
This isn't just a science project.

2. Yes, send a beacon with an IP address along with with some clues about it's meaning and a gateway; let them plug into the Internet ! If they're any good they would take it from there and it wouldn't become a national secret either.

3. I run SET@home because it's exciting to participate and contribute to this huge and signficant project. Signficant also because of the way it uses the computing power of potentially the whole world to focus on one aim.
