Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I think the possibility of extraterrestrial life is quite within the rational boundaries of science.
I am not going to stab at a guess when or how humans will discover such life. Who's to say such a discovery hasn't already been made? (No, I am not one of those conspiracy-heads.)
When public contact is made... there are always going to be benefits and dangers. Benefits like the sharing of knowledge and technology. Dangers of hostile invaders who would enslave us all and/or kill us all and conquer our world... ending life as we all know it.
2. I don't think we should transmit a beacon for others to find. The possibility of the hostile invader theory is fresh in my mind now.........
3. Why do I run SETI@home? I don't know... would you rather I not? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm doing you a favour here! So back off!!!
I'm just messing with ya. I'm interested in finding extraterrestrial life out there in the vastness of the universe.....................
