Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think ETI must logically exist. The odds that we are the first intelligent civilization in the universe are simply vanishingly small. I run SETI@Home in order to do my part to make the initial discovery possible. Since it seems that governments are unwilling to lay out sufficient funds to purchase a computer to do the work, a distributed computing model such as that of this project makes the most sense. Whether this particular effort succeeds or fails is of little importance. What is important is that we try and continue to so do, improving upon previous efforts with each new iteration.
