Personal background
Greetings fellow Earthlings. I am just a regular guy that enjoys a good time while still looking forward to what the future has to bring. Yes, I've been known to have a beer or two or ... and dream about the infinite number of directions my life could have taken. At the same time I'm grounded in reality and try to make good decisions.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?
Back in 2001 I started running SETI@home when I noticed a coworker of mine had this cool screen saver. Upon further inspection I saw that his computer was actually doing work when he wasn't. That's not a cut on him, just an observation. I thought this was a pretty cool idea and decided to become a part of it. Being a computer professional I was also interested in the application and concept of distributed computing.

What are your views about the project?
I could be wrong, but I believe Carl Sagan once said something along the lines of, it would be just as important to discover that we are alone as it would be to find other intelligent life in the Universe. This is a worthwhile endeavor and I'm certain that the people that put it together have a lot better theories about how to discover extraterrestrial intelligence than I ever will. Kudos to those that think outside the box.

Any suggestions?
It is probably fair to say that SETI@home is a community of people interested in science and doing something to further our knowledge. My thought would be to find unique ways for people to get to learn more about the project and the people that are a part of it. The forums and user of the day are great ways to learn about the people. Perhaps someone can come up with a way to explain how it all works. Then again, I may just have to read more.
