Personal background
I am 27 and still trying to find my way in this crazy mixed-up world.

I love to sing and write poetry and am currently trying to write a novel, I work in an office as a data entry moron and end up staring out of the window for some time while tapping midlessly on the keyboard - hoping that the noise alone will convince others I am working.

I live in a shared house with the nicest and craziest people on the planet and watch nonsense on tv, eat bad food and listen to crazy tunes... much like the rest of the western world.

I try to go to at least one music festival every year - usually Glastonbury - where I get down and dirty with lots of other maniacally smiling music lovers.

I have delusions of grandeur and belive that one day my talent will be recognised and the world will wonder at the amaxing me... pfff... hmmm...

Fear is not an option!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I strongly believe that extraterrestrial life exists and think it is a profound and absolute arrogance to think otherwise. Whether you believe in \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'God\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' or in the power of science there just doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t appear to be any reason why only this small planet; in the billions that are theorised to exist; should be the only one teeming with \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'intelligent\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' life.
Humans will, hopefully, discover ET\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s in my lifetime. I think it is essential in our spiritual evolution to realise that we are not the be-all and end-all. Whether the ET\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s we discover are on the same rung of the evolutionary scale or more advanced is not really an issue. We should not be in awe just accepting... However, looking at our history and how we attempt to destroy or change \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'different\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' I doubt that \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'people\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' will be able to accept the news with anything but shock and fear. This , of course, is the major danger of such a discovery and paradoxically also the major benefit. The discovery would be something that the whole world would be effected by and would not be able to \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'duck and cover\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' to avoid. It would force us to look outwards away from our own selfish attitudes and fears and towards common goals and interests - a mutual cleaning of the front room before the visitors arrive.
Humans should transmit a beacon-you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll never get a phone call if no one knows your number. The information to send should be something simple - who we are, where we are-the world seen through the eyes of a child. Not a complicated explanation of DNA structures but more a sense of our species both the good and the bad.
I run SETI@home because I want to be involved in the greatest discovery that will ever be made. That something this important is being shared with everyone is a testament to how unselfish science is and a precursor to the inclusion of the planet when we stop and say welcome.
