Hi there! My name is Henk, I am 30-something and living in Holland near the sea. I work as a sales manager in a zoo which basically means that it is my job to fill as many banqueting rooms and party ships as humanly possible.
I have a few strange hobbies. For the last 10 years I collect notes and shopping lists that I find on the street and make collages out of them. Weird, but satisfying. I also collect menu lists from the 1850/ 1950's. |

Sometimes I am not sure if Earth contains intelligent life so perhaps we should look up into the skies and look for any clever creatures out there. Well, smart enough to operate a radio transmitter anyway...
The most challenging question humanity faces today is: Is there intelligent life out there? And if so, do they really use cool gizmo's like light sabers and transporter beams?
Scientists estimate that any alien civilization at a radius of say 50 light-years from Earth, can pick up the first television broadcasts transmitted by us. I really hope they do not dislike Desi Arnaz...
Just imagine: perhaps aliens find out about us by our television advertisements from 1950! Intrigued, they hop into a spacecraft, land on Earth, only to find that a particular brand of washing powder they're interested in is not manufactured anymore. Might be a weird reason to start an interstellar war!
What would I ask ET if he was standing right before me? I would ask him why alien money in sci-fi shows is always referred to as credits. I mean, come on, ALF or Mr. Spock or whatever your name is? If you're so clever then why couldn't you think of something more original?
I hope that we might discover ET anytime soon although the changes are very slim. But just imagine: wouldn't it be great to actually meet ET? And to discuss our mutual sciences, literature and poetry? And to dissect him immediately afterwards? |
