Personal background
I have been interested in astronomy since I can remember. At about the age of 12 I got my first telescope and the universe just opened up. The logical extension was to start thinking, "Are we alone in this huge universe". I do not believe, like others, that we are. What form it takes is another matter.

I got into computers a few years ago and then found out about the seti project. With my computer skills my love of astronomy and my unanwered question about the universe the logical next move was to start analysing SETI's data. I run five PCs all linked permanently to the internet via a broadband router turning over about 100-120 results a week. I went for the non GUI based program for speed. I can monitor progress from the Multi Monitor program.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

Yes I do but I think we are in for a shock. When we finally get the signal and we will. The distances will be too incredible for any viable form of face to tenticle contact :). Discovery of a signal, in all reality, could take many years. I still think our technology still needs to improve. The wavelengths we scan on are only one small area of the total bandwidth on which an intelligent signal could arrive. There is no doubt that when the big HELLO WE ARE HERE signal arrives that the affect will be profound. Society across the plant is in a fragile state and as such humanity could be on the brink of destruction or advancement. God willing when the signal comes we will be mature enough and intelligent enough to deal with the consequences

2.Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

Well we have already done this in two forms. The pioneer missions sent recordings out into space of Hello in every language and a map to find us and also the Aracebo telescope was used to send a signal out as well. We send enough radio junk out into space in the form of television and radio siganls. If E.T. is listening he will hear this first.

3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

I am eternally hopeful we will reach our goal. If humanity can learn to live in peace by learning from another race the mistakes they made then it will be worth all the work. I think the project is very worth while. Even if the signal doesn't come we may learn through cooperation to put our differences aside and learn we our a global community not seperate countries.
