Personal background
Hi,

I'm 55 years old and live in Winsted, Connecticut. I have a wife and 2 children (a son who is 28 in Maine and a daughter who is 24 and going to college in Connecticut).

I'm a controller for a local manufacturing company and love sports, especially basketball.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I believe in life on other planets? You bet I do. I can not believe that in the whole universe we are it. Sounds a little too nieve to me. Even if it was a one in a billion chance that allowed earth and our life to exist that would mean that there are numerous other planets out there with the same chance.

Yes, there are benefits and possible dangers to finding extra terrestial life. The benefits are finding a friendly race that we exchange ideas and technology with for the benefit of both races. Dangers--- Well, I can't believe that every race is friendly and who knows what could happen. Sci Fi movies may not be too far off from some possible situations. But I do not believe we should bury our heads in the sand (er, earth) because whether we look for them or not.... we would eventually be found.

Should we transmit beacon for others to find. Yes!! What should it include? Who knows? I guess as long as we send something out into space for another race to hear it we will peak their interest (assuming they are also looking for extra terrestial life).

I run setiathome because it is a interesting project and concept of getting the support of users around the globe to help in the pursuit of finding answers to questions. I can see this concept being used later on in other applications like finding cures for cancer or things like that.
