I've used computers off and on since learning BASIC in high school in 1968 (Teletype with paper tape storage connected via 300 baud line to PDP 8!) but really got hooked in 1982 with an Atari 400. These days I'm lucky to be using near-state-of-the-art PCs and especially enjoy Photoshop and Web design.
I've been interested in photography and the night sky since I was a boy, and am partway though the process of grinding my own 6-inch telescope mirror.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've been intrigued with the idea of analyzing data with a few hundred thousand of my closest colleagues ever since I first read about SETI in WiReD magazine a number of years ago. I think it's a great project for those unused cycles and it would be an astonishing thing if we ever discover a bona fide signal. Here's hoping!
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
