Personal background
I'm administrator, webmaster, and content developer for www.cafegeek.com, i'm always working on something or other, whenever my day job (or night job as it were) doesn't prevent me from doing so. SETI@Home keeps my computer occupied in the meantime, and does something worthwile while keeping my cpu warm so to speak. I've recently started a team for the users of my website to join, we'll see how many users i actually get though
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
given the estimated number of planets just in the known universe and the common rate of occurrence of the compounds responsible for life as we know it, i'm certain there is extraterrestrial life, though i'm not certain it's intelligent enough to have developed radio technology. even so, by the time we actually detected a signal, the civilization that sent it may be long dead. still it is our scientific responsibility to answer the unanswered questions, whatever they may be. progress comes not from the individual but from the masses, and i couldn't think of a better mass to associate myself with :)
