Personal background
I'm a spacecraft system engineer, working for NASA. SETI at home is a great project, both in its ability to involve people such as myself who are in the industry, as well as involving the general public. By involving the general public in such project, we increase our constituency, and increase our funding for the search for knowledge about our universe!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think extraterrestrial life exists, and the method of discovery would be the solution to a random function. Humeans are already transmiting beacons in the form of terrestrial signals such as TV, Radio, etc., as well as in the form of transmissions to discovery class robotic spacecraft on their way to various locations.
