Profile: Dale K. Poulin

Personal background
Hello Everyone! I live in North Vancouver's Lynn Valley, British Columbia, Canada. This is on the West (Pacific) Coast of Canada. BC is like the California of Canada: We're just a little warmer and stranger that the rest of the Country. I hit the big 50 this year, but my kids keep me young. I'm a General Insurance Agent and I manage an Agency in Vancouver. My hobbies are fishing, camping, computers. I'm happily married with two young children.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think life exists elsewhere. It's just too hard to believe that Earth is the only planet with life in this big, big universe we are in. It's only a matter of time until we find extraterrestrial life or extraterrestrial life finds us. However, time is fickle. . . First contact could be tomorrow, or 10,000 years from now. What's going to happen when we finally meet extraterrestrial life? God only knows. I just hope they don't want to eat us! We will most likely find that interaction with extraterrestrial life will be both a blessing and a curse. We should transmit a beacon. We may wish to wait until we have a good spaced-based weapon system; like the sun-powered laser in Larry Niven's "Ringworld" Novel. Let's make sure we transmit only truthful information. I like running SETI@home. It makes me a part of the largest computer project on Earth. Plus, being a part of SETI, is just a little offbeat and romantic even. We're all sort of "Charging Windmills" together.

Warm Regards, Dale
