Personal background

Well I guess I'm just the average bloke, located at the adress:

Milkyway, Planet Earth

2004 Europe, Denmark

C/O Roskilde

I've had this adress the last 24 years with a few changes in the C/O throughout this time. ;-)

I'm currently training to be a furniture carpenter after having spend 5 years attending various PC-related studies. I started as an organ-builder/carpenter right after finishing the 10'th grade (the last, and optional, of the grades in the danish school system). After a series of various partially paralyzing circumstances starting at age 16, I then got my surreal 18 year birthday present: diagnosis Multple Sclerosis.

Doctors then adviced me to drop the plans of a physical-minded education, which I accepted to do as i didn't know anything about MS. Apart from the fact, that it's often misunderstood as "oh, you're lame from the waste-down, spastic, drooling and rolling around in a wheelchair. No, you're standing up i see, but you'll get there." due to the same lack of knowledgde that I myself had.

This is however the unfortuane reality of many a MS-patient, but not the MS-reality, and not at all the dominant reality. The most worrying fact about this illness, is exactly that there exists no ONE reality or end-scenario. Each case is quite as unique as the person having the infection. The state of being crippled is only [i]one of the possible end-scenarios, especially since the discovering of various hormones that reduce the frequency of attacks. MS roughly said comes in two variations; By attacks, and by a continous downwards slope. The absolute monority is in the second type, and those are the ones with the highest propability to fit into the general (mis)conception of an MS-infected person. But within the 6 years I've had this disease drugs have been discovered, that reduce the frequency af attacks from the from the current factor of approximately by 1/3 to 1/2. Even more so with focus on the newly discovered, and very promising, effects of specialized diets and vitamines C, E, A, zink and selen.

Not to forget the Marinol-pill. THC in form of a pill. Many an MS-patient have been smoking marihuana or hashis for years, constantly reporting to doctors and scientist, that it's got a positive effect on eventual pains and immobility caused by MS. And the result of this, is the forming of the Marinol-pill. Not prescription-joints, not a 'medicinal coffee-shop'. An industrially produced pill! Honestly ... it's rediculous to maintain the illegal status of marihuana, without exceptions, in the light of the scientifically proved fact, that THC has a positive effect on MS-patients(and also e.g. AIDS patients). Why not plant marihuanna which on top of having natural THC we can use for various medicinal purposes, not only getting high, also is an excellent provider of fibers for clothing, ropes, sails, plastic-like products, et.c et.c, and not least being VERY much cheaper on social security-funds.

I'm quite sure that an actual cure will be found within a reasonably short time though. Not least since several companies and have launched DC (distributed computing) projects that really speed up the reaseach in drugs/cures for physical diseases like MS.

I'm eagerly awaiting their introducing of a project for the BOINC client.

(did you know that Henry Ford back in the 30's or 40's actually displayed a car where all materials where made from hemp, apart from those that for obvious reasons need to be metal-based? Not only that, it was made to run on the oil extractible from hemp seeds. And other oil-rich seeds ofcourse. Not the ineffectively used and very much more polluting gasoline products the world STILL hangs on to and use in abbundance)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have a firm believe in the potential of this new client, BOINC, though the GUI and setup-opt's still leave a few things behind. At least in terms of my expectiations ..... I've actuaclly written an email to seti-crew during classic seti@home, suggesting and descriping a new approach to grid-computing 99% similar to what ended up as BOINC :) and just about 10 sec's after 'send' I suddenly saw an interesting line in the news, clicked, and got directed to a page informing about this new berkeley-project called BOINC. Kinda surreal, whilst very satisfying ;)

I'll draw a picture of how I think of BOINC:

I've created team A.W.E.S.O.M.E which is the acronym for "A Worldwide Enthusiastic Support Of Mankind Evolution". No more, no less ;)

This acronym, which I by the way think is kinda cool (ofcourse), captures the essense of my thoughts on BOINC. Classic seti@home was great, but very 'narrowminded', but who knew it would grow into what today is BOINC? By narrowminded I mainly mean the fact that it could only compute data in ONE format, which seti themselves came to realize weren't optimal. They had tons of scannings laying around from other radio observatories, not being treated, as they didn't have the application to treat them. Within an acceptable timespand that is. Now they are not only capable of getting all their data computed, other projects as well are capable of harvesting the massive ressource of this all together extremely massive supercomputer, growing in strength by the hour. And not only that! I see, in the not all that distant future, that BIONC becomes so much an asset to companies requiring intense cumputing, that it's bound to become an important factor exactly how the contributed ressources are used.

To clearify (might be a bit than an example though):

Company1 and Company2 both harness the power of BOINC's joint forces. Both companies are medical firms designing drugs for the diseases of the world. By disease I dont mean right-wing state of mind, hardcore capitalism, or terrorism, though terrorism makes a good image for the further explanation; because it turns out, that Company1 have been selling thier drugs grossly overpriced to the ones needing them, whilst Company2 have been more concerned with getting the drugs to the needing, wiping out whatever disease the drug where designed to cope.
Company1 in this image are the true terrorists of the world in my opinion, but which company do you think would get a drop in BOINC-computing, and which one would experience an increase? Now here comes the beauty of this questionmark, because the only answer to this is; whichever the public decides.
We're actually being granted a possibility to not only give signals as to what the directions of the research we want, but actively be a part realizing that direction of research. Far fetched? yeah, well you just wait and see ;-)

We grow closer by the day to being an actual world-society, and not just continental/regional society's. But then again the racial and faith related problems also seem to grow by the day along with general narrow-mind, inflexibility, selfcentered state of mind, and unwillingness to accept others, especially those that doesn't share your exact point of view.
openseti.org have some very interesting articles on what is required of us to grow as a civilization, and what some of the requirements are towards getting there. However, I'll admit being a bit pessimistic about us growing beoynd the status of a level 0 civilization in the terms used at openseti.org due to those extact problems with relations between people and nations.
I know I'm stepping on more than one toe when I say, that I can't in any way understand what on earth made people move away from worshipping the universe, sun, and simply the earth we walk, and into creating personified gods. "And god created man in his image", NO: we created him in our image. Now I'm not intollerant about religons, nor without faith/believes. People are allowed to believe in whatever, and whoever they wish to believe in, but thats the whole problem;
almost all the of largest religions state, that they are the holder of the only true god, and anyone who doesn't accept that and bow down to him is a heathen infidel deserving no better than death and the wrath of hells. This makes a more than excellent base for the world never to be unified under the common flag of just being human. If that exact statement wasn't present, along with the inacceptance towards race and political stand, I'm sure the world-society would be very much closer indeed. If you look through the history it's no less than appalling how many times we've done whatever possible to not grow as a civilization, racial wars, religious wars, wars for land ... the list includes just about any cause you can think of. I can't help but laugh inside when we in the light of this(or darkness if you will), still aren't reluctant about calling ourselves an intelligent specie. Sure, we have a lot of scientific knowledgde which BOINC both proves and improves, but is that really the only credential for claiming ourselves as intelligent? Do you seriously think, that the intelligent civilization we're hoping to find through seti@home is a civilization as divided into all sorts of fractions as we are? I say no!
