Personal background |
Hi, I'm a Slovak university student keen on computer science. SETI@Home appealed to me ever since I've heard of it and I immediately asked for permission to run it on our school server, which seemed to me really not used for such a machine, running only a web server and managing mail accounts. Since then, I try to gain permission to run it on every computer which would run anyway, unused. Now that I'm buying a new PC myself, a 3.00 HT Intel machine running 24/7, SETI can look forward to new hot results coming... ;) |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Why do I run SETI? For the good of all mankind :)
Really, I can't look at modern machines with power of millions of mathematicans used for office applications. SETI is a really good thing to use it for. Although it's a long-term project, I'm glad to participate. Now that there's BOINC and I can choose from more grid computing projects than SETI, I'll probably be helping also to the disease reseach projects, but SETI has always had a place in my philosophy.
My views about the project. As I mentioned, this is a long-term kind of thing, I'm not expecting real results from SETI overnight and I won't be disappointed if there will be none for the next 100 years. But imagine the significance of the first success. I don't mean the first signal recognized, but the first interstellar contact made. Man, that'll be worth it. I hope our children will in between realize how our generation lives and change this world to a more tolerant and self-realizing place, so that we have something to offer to our friends out there, too.
Suggestions... why not start with it today, folks? |
