Personal background
Hi,
My name is Thomas Fante. I am a 21 year old student at American River College in Sacramento, California and Technical Support Specialist at a financial company. My interests include: traveling, computers and computer games, electronics, and music. At school I am studying to become an electrical engineer.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
-I do think there is life out there, although I think it is debateable that any extraterrestrial life has come to Earth, given that we are so far from even the nearest stars. Also, if we recieve a signal from somewhere, whos to say that the civilization that sent it still exists, what we see in the stars is really an image of the past...
-If we transmit a beacon so that extraterrestrials can find us, then we must be ready to face whatever might happen should they reply to it. Given that we are curious enough to look to the stars for other civilizations, someone might just be looking as well. Its too bad, however that by the time our signal is intercepted, the earth that sent it will be changed quite a bit (just think if we somehow invented faster than light travel, and we went somewhere and then got our signal there)
-The reasons why I run SETI@home are simple:
1)Since SETI runs as a low priority process on my computers, it doesn't interfere with anything I do and puts all of those unused processor cycles to use...
2)The cause is a worthy one
3)Although really unimportant, people seem to like watching the seti program working =)
