Personal background
I'm basically bored, i've been booted out of bed @ 6am on a sunday morning by my 9 month old son who is now sleeping in my warm imprint next to my lovely wife. i've just had the last 2 weeks off from work due to the fact that i have just had (03-23-2003) surgery on my left shoulder because i have dislocated it 15 times in the last 3 years, yes it is painful. i'm back to work tomorrow and i will be playing up to the surgery to get as much sympathy as possible, i'm actually hoping that the sympathy vote will win me the employee of the month award. i'll update this at a later time because i am really tired right now and can't think of much else to write..........tbc
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
i cannot believe that ET doesn't exist. i personally believe our universe is infinite (i'm currently reading "a brief history of time" and finding myself arguing with a book....hmm) and given the amount of stars and orbiting planets there has to be other planets like ours or planets where live has evolved into other forms than humanoid.
i don't really have any idea when we will discover ET, the possibilities of how and when are endless, myself, i hope it is sooner rather than later. i don't like the idea that they will be found long after i am dead and buried (one of the main reasons that i am doing this).
as for benefits and dangers, i cannot really comment, other than it depends on the reation of the alien to us and our reaction towards them.

at this time i don't think that we should be spending too much money on sending probes or beacons specifically in search of ET because there are more imprtant things happening in the world right now where those funds would be better off distributed. we also need to find more efficient and better forms of transporting these items in space.

i'm running SETI@home because of the comment made above, i also like the idea that i am helping to do something that i have no doubt will have a massive impact to everyone on this planet once alien life has been discovered and (hopefully) contact is made.

the picture is of my little boy who got me out of bed so early this morning.
