I've been running SETI @ home since 1999, though my old ISP folded and I forgot the password and couldn't merge my previous stats into my current account) |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I run SETI because it allows me to contribute my spare computer time to a worthy project. While I don\\'t expect we\\'ll find much very soon (space is such a big place, and ET probably isn\\'t directly beaming anything towards us any more than we are trying to direct messages to ET, so we may only eventually pick up weak radio leakage, unless they\\'re using some exotic tech we don\\'t know about), you can\\'t know if you don\\'t look!
2. I think this is a great way to get the computer resources needed, considering that the govt. seems to refuse to recognize the public support for this project (or apparently any other scientific research unless it is directed at some specific defense/economic goal)
3. Not a suggestion, but a question: Will there be a similar project for an optical SETI? |
