Personal background
Hi:

My name is Gina and I have had Seti going on in the background on my computer for as long as I first discovered it. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada and besides my owe personal beliefs in the fact there has to be life in other worlds, my nine year old son Joey is my real catalyst for trying to find a signal, anything to prove the theories right! He watches the stars at night hoping to see a UFO, he is convinced that there is life out there and prays to find out if he is correct in his lifetime. If not in mine, I too pray it is discovered in his lifetime. He is so certain. He has attention Deficit which means he finds it hard to concentrate, but is a genius in math and obsessed by the stars and what's hidden in the skies above. I try to answer his questions and he becomes more fascinated every day. Now that he realizes all those stars are suns and that many have planets circling them... well I wish it were possible for him to take a ride in space. And maybe in his lifetime it will be.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think I just answered all these questions above. Yes extraterrestrial life has to exist, though our first encounters may not be what we hoped for. I believe just like in any culture there can be evil. I worry that if we are being visited as many claim this may not be the type of alien race we hope to encounter. I do not believe we need to send a beacon. Any intelligent life form with the capability of long-range space travel knows we are here already. We just don't have the capabilities to use space travel ourselves yet or we would encounter them. Unfortunately, I also wonder about the theory that we have never been to the moon. Most people laugh when I say that, but they also laugh when I state my belief in ET's. With our telescopes today would it not be such a simple thing to focus on the moon and find evidence we were there, if the US wanted this theory dismissed once and for all? After all, if we can see other galaxies, why can't we take another simple look at the moon? I hear that China is going to the moon soon , so this will all be put tp rest.
I run Seti because I know they are out there, and this is my only way of attempting to help make my boy's dream a reality. I would love to prove him right in my lifetime and encourage all my friends to run the Seti program.
