Personal background
I'm a space alien from earth, from an obscure specie (carbon based too!) some called humon, but known more by the misspelling 'human'. From where we come from, water is such a popular food, we have many humon devoted their lives mixing them in countless cocktails. We enjoy local atmospheric viberations of various structures (yes, we have organs that sense them) - it's called musoc (or music) for short. In recent history (50 years) we've reached a critical mass (information mass) and begin to communicate using copper wires and structured bursts of electrons - most humon are jumping with joy with this new phase in our development. Presently we inhibit a small portion of our planetery surface, with the core wholely ignored and a quite minimal exploratory orbital activity - we are a young species believing for the past 5,000 years that we are very advanced - it's commonly considered cute and it keeps us pushing for our own evolution in a hurried pace - to one day play the interstellar adventures of every matric.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Sure. Benefits - our evolution, variation of information, inspirations. Danger: our own fears and suspecions blinding us, our assumptions distorting how we see these new things.
2. Yes. Art - paintings, music, writings.
3. For fun. Understanding first hand mass distributed computing paradigm.
