Personal background
I am a retired USAF Master Sergeant who lives in the eastern part of England. I am 57 (growing old is no fun, I intend to do it disgracefully). When I was in the Air Force I was a computer operator (back in the days of card sorters, gang punchers, colators (sorry about the spelling) and the Burroughs 263 with it four bit byte. Yes there really were machines like that. I also did time a research and clinical lab technican and a telecommunications network controller. In between these jobs I did administrative and personnel work. My last assignment before coming to England was Alaska and originally I was supposted to go back to Elmendorf AFB, but I was given the chance to go to England (an assignment that I had been trying for years to get). I married the librarian of village where I was living and we have three grandchildren.

In 1987 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which put an end to my plans to return to Alaska. I do hope to come back for a visit one of these years. I do miss it even after 20+ years. I like all that space! Doctor suggested I stay in England as extremes of climate are not good for MS. I am still a legal resident of the state of Alaska. If I can find a way back I will do.

Hobbies, well I read everything I can get my hands on. If I catch up with my reading I know I will not be alive. I play chess (badly). Am into politics and religion (I am agnostic but I tried all sorts of churches but finally decided that I just wasn't sure). For my sins I am a Libertarian and tend to vote Republican although I didn't last time around. I am a member of a group that "records" (surveys old churches, here in England most churches go back at least 800 years some even more). I also sing in a barbershop chorus from time to time. I have a picture but I have to find it on one of my CDs, when I do I will add it to the profile.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I love the idea of distributive computing :->. I can't see wasting all the wait time just to let the CPU twiddle it thumbs. If I could afford it I would probably set up a two CPU + system so that I could devote 100% of the time to SETI. I know it won't happen but I would like for my machine to be the one that finds the signal.

2. It didn't start soon enough! This system makes sure that our computers earn their keep and aren't just pretty paperweights :-) I love the project and wish more people would get involved.

3. Perhaps the project can be offered to people purchasing new computers as an optional extra at no additional cost. Who knows...
