Personal background
The picture of my wife and myself is from a few years ago during my Disco days.
I am 46 years old and live in Phoenix, Arizona We have been married for 26 years
and have two children. I obtained my Bachelors in CIS from
DeVry Institute of Technology in 1997. I have a small network at home and
run the SETI screensaver on all of them. I try and keep a variety of computers
to play with, currently my network at home consists of a 1.7 GHZ with 500 MB Ram,
PIII 600 with 300 MB Ram, PII 300 with 256 MB Ram, and a Pentium Pro 200
"this is my server" with 128 MB Ram and last is a Pentium 120 with 64 MB ram
running Linux 7.0. My title at work is Consulting Network Professional a
long name for Network Engineer. I have a great job I currently upgraded the
network at work (600 user nodes)to a full Cisco Gigabit network (smokin speed). And best of all
I get to play with the latest and greatest new toys that are on the market.
all our servers are dual or quad Pentium III 600's with 1 to 4 GIG of Ram. We
have the Novell and some NT/2000 systems tied to a Fiber Channel Raid 5 Array
with 850 GIG of storage space. I wish I could run SETI on these instead of my
home network.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I think that life exists somewhere else in the universe with the vast amount
of space how could we believe that we are the only creatures that have evolved
to the point that our civilization has, or surpassed where we currently are.
If we could make contact it is a double edge sword the knowledge that we could
obtain could be extreeeemly beneficial, or knowing human nature just as deadly.
Why do I run SETI? The things that can be accomplished with a group of people
all working with the same goal is awesome. Now if we could only apply this same
effort to many other things in the world I believe we would evolve to the next
level. Maybe my children will see this just as my Grand Parents saw technology
evolve to levels they never dreamed of.
